Welcome to the University of Portsmouth Capoeira Society!
This Capoeira group is open to people of all abilities. It develops confidence combined with a strong feeling of balance. Our capoeira society is supervised by Mestre Claudio Campos and is part of Nucleo de Capoeiragem, a group under the supervision of Mestres Jorge & Danilo.
Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art; the perfect exercise which combines strength, flexibility, aerobic fitness and power. No pre-training is needed as the classes are designed to get your fitness levels up. You will find that after a few weeks of training capoeira, you will start to notice improvements in your stamina, muscles and flexibility.
Capoeira is ritualistic, having the elements of dance, fight and music combined in one martial art that paints history while forming a community. As a part of the society, you will get the opportunity to make new friends, learn how to play a new instrument and get a taste of the Brazilian history and culture. This society will also allow you to get fit, flexible and be a part of a friendly and vibrant community. Numerous other arts will also be practiced such as Samba de Roda and Maculele.
For those new to Capoeira and curious, we welcome you to join our classes and find out more about capoeira for yourself.
The group trains three times a week. Each session is 1-2 hours long. Members will need to wear comfortable clothing that would allow them to move around easily.
The location of the training sessions is to be confirmed.
