Mountaineering and Climbing Club
The best view comes after the hardest climb
UPMCC welcomes beginners and experienced climbers. Each week two trips are made to climbing centres, Tuesdays it’s roped climbing and Thursday is bouldering. Leaving the union at 6pm both days and getting back at 11 on a Tuesday and 9.30 on a Thursday.
Outdoor climbing takes place all over the country and abroad. In October the Fresher’s Trip in Portland takes many people climbing outdoors for the first time. Other weekend trips go to Gower, Portland and Swanage with other options being explored.
Trips consist of outdoor climbing, outdoor bouldering, hiking and mountaineering. Last summer the club headed to the French Alps and is planning to go to Greece in August.
Weekly socials are organised which take place all over Portsmouth with major socials such as Fresher’s White T-shirt and the Christmas Meal.
The committee is supported by Horizon Expeditions who have provided specific training for climbing with beginners and first aid training. Horizon Expeditions are also supporting the club with trips throughout the year.
The club competes in several competitions, both formal and fun, including British Universities and Colleges (BUCS), South Coast University Bouldering (SCUB) and the red spider monthly bouldering comp.
