Pole Dancing Club
Enjoy pole dance classes with Fitpole and combine fitness with having a laugh with your friends on socials and other events organised by the Pole Dance Society.
About the club
This is the Pole Dance Club's fifth year in the AU and we are forever growing with more and more members. Pole is great for fitness but we also take part in competitions such as the South East Pole Competition, Inter-university Pole Competition and Varsity. We also hold showcases where the event "So you think you can Pole" interacts with other clubs in the AU teaching them how to pole dance and perform in a doubles routine. There are also opportunities to take part in workshops which allows us to learn different moves and fine tune ones which we already know. No previous experience is required as we cater to all levels.
Competitions and Events
While Pole Dancing is up and coming in the sporting world we do our best to get out there and compete as often as we can outside of the University. Last year we competed in both Bristol and Warwick’s Inter-University pole competitions and are hoping to visit these again with the possibility of attending even more! The categories at each competition vary but generally we enter members in the beginners, intermediate, advanced and super advanced categories. In addition to these independent competitions we compete annually against Southampton in Varsity, a huge event on the sporting calendar which involves the two universities going head to head in a variety of different sports. Every year we host our own Pole Dance Showcase, ‘So you think you can Pole Dance?’, where our own members work with other sports teams from the AU to produce fun and exciting doubles routines and all the proceeds go to a chosen charity.
The membership fee for the Pole Dancing Club is £25.
Lessons & Training
Lessons have to be organised and paid for through the Spinnaker Sports Centre which is very accessible and opposite the Students Union. These can be purchased at a discounted price with proof of your club membership. Lessons on average work out at £6 a class for groups of 10-15 people, this will of course depend on the popularity of the particular set of lessons you book onto. Private sessions can also be purchased but for an added cost. We also provide opportunities to take part in workshops which allow us to learn different moves and fine tune ones which we already know.
For any help, advice and information about lessons, how to purchase them, when and where they run etc please contact the club via email or the Facebook page. Taster sessions are available to book at Freshers Fayre.
Why should you join?
It’s a fantastic way to get fit, have fun and make friends! No experience is needed! Boys and girls are both welcome! A great way to start getting involved in University life and try something new!
