If you join you could become as big and sexy as these boys
UPRC offers the opportunity of rowing to anyone of any experience; from experienced athletes to people who have never been in a boat before. As a result we have a variety of different squads within the club which are related to the general skill, experience fitness and commitment, these range from novice squad - for beginners, up to the senior men and women's squads for the more veteran rowers.
We our currently one of the biggest clubs in the Athletic Union and our plan is to keep growing and improving to become even more competitive at all BUCS events, both indoor and outdoor, with a view to sending crews to non-university regattas, e.g Henley Royal Regatta.
As a club we encourage our members to engage in all aspects of University life, as such we offer socials to all our members both alcoholic and non. This maybe anything from a Purple Wednesday night out, to a trip to the Bowling Alley or going out for meal as a society.
Land training is three days a week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday. Land training sessions on will Monday- Wednesday will take place at Southsea Rowing Club. Mondays (Men's) and Tuesdays (Women's) are gender separated this is where Captains can focus on crew training instead of just general fitness and strength training. Friday training sessions will take place at Pure Gym (Commercial Road) which is less than a 10 minute walk from any halls of residence. Pure Gym is open 24 hours so you will be able to carry out your own training in your own time as well as training as a club. They offer classes ranging from spin, grit strength to yoga and abs.
Training times here are as follows:
Monday: 8 - 10pm (Men's only)
Tuesday: 8 - 10pm (Women's only)
Wednesday: 2 - 4pm (Mixed)
Friday: 6 - 8am (Mixed)
Will be guaranteed at least once a week, these will usually take place on Wednesday afternoons and on the weekends. Water sessions will be held at Tudor Sailing Club, which is a picturesque sheltered stretch of water. We have a variety of boats which you will be able to train in. You will be coached by qualified coaches and experienced captains side by side in a powerboat.
The membership fee for the Rowing Club is competitively priced for an AU club at £90 for the year. This cost will cover water sessions, coaching, regatta fees and transport, socials and our exclusive benefit scheme with over 40 discounts.
Pure Gym membership must be purchased separately. Membership is non-contract so if you do not like it you can leave at anytime and signing up can be cheaper if you use UNiDAYs.
